Religious Art of Dennis Moran
Joint Venture Churches are blessed to have and use the religious art of Dennis Moran.
Delve more deeply into each piece:
The Joint Venture Churches are a partnership between the Episcopal Church in Almaden www.eca-sj.org (ECA) and the Congregational Church of Almaden Valley, UCC (United Church of Christ); two churches sharing the same edifice.
Dennis and his wife, Mary, are members of the Episcopal Church of Almaden (ECA). We in the Congregational Church are so fortunate and blessed to be able to share in this beautiful and inspiring art.
The Congregational Church (then known as Almaden Valley United Church of Christ) formed in 1965, with Frank Jagger as the minister, and bought land in the Almaden area, hoping to raise funds for a building.
About that same time, John Buenz was starting an Episcopal mission. Both congregations were holding services in a prune shed off of Almaden Expressway that had been recently vacated by Holy Spirit Catholic Church, as they were moving into their newly constructed building on Redmond Road.
The Congregational and Episcopal congregations combined resources to create the facility we have today.
Father Buenz was looking for a new religious symbol to unify the congregation and approached Dennis Moran about making a processional cross. Thus started the Processional Cross and Tapers followed by the Hanging Sanctuary Cross, the Altar and it's Dove representing the Holy Spirit.
