Over the years, CCAVUCC has been actively involved in many mission and outreach programs. The Outreach committee, headed by Phyllis Chai, strives to involve the congregation in Christian outreach activities in the community and in the support of the global Christian mission of the United Church of Christ.
The CCAVUCC Shelter Feeding service is done on the third Tuesday of every month. A group meets at the church at 4:00 p.m. to prepare, deliver, and serve dinner for two shelters in San Jose, run by InnVision Shelter Network. Volunteer cooks, drivers, servers, & cookies are always needed. For more information contact Phyllis Chai at 226-7150.
Heifer has learned over the years that a holistic approach is necessary in order to build sustainable communities. So we’ve developed a set of global initiatives – areas of emphasis that must be addressed if we’re to meet our mission of ending world hunger and poverty and caring for the earth. Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. We seek to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller, along with his wife, Linda. Today, we have built over 300,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
Peter Nyok, is one of the Lost Boys of Sudan living in San Jose, CA. Beginning in 2004 and as recent as Arpil 2009, Peter rescued orphans and “at risk” children living in “war torn” villages in southern Sudan. Today, 56 Sudanese children are living safely in Kenya, where they have the opportunity to attend school. Peter works two jobs to support these orphans and seeks sponsors to assist with school tuition, uniforms and school supplies. Our goal is to pair donors with Peter’s 56 refugee Sudanese children living in Kenya.
