Rev. Marty grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and you will still hear a little bit of Texas twang. She received her BA from Texas Christian University and moved to southern CA and attended the School of Theology at Claremont, receiving her Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees.
Rev. Marty has served 38 years in ministry. She was licensed in 1978 and ordained in 1983 by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She has a deep love and passion for the local church and her ministry reflects this. She has served local congregations in Southern California and Northern California and has many years experience in regional and conference ministry. Rev. Marty delights in working with congregational transformation, transition, and equipping the church for the “next faithful thing”.
Rev. Marty recently concluded her service as Interim Transitional Pastor at Lafayette Christian Church in Lafayette, CA. She served as an Associate Conference Minister in the Northern California-Nevada Conference for 5 years and was the Regional Minister-Vice President for the Christian Church (DOC) in Northern California-Nevada for 13 years. Rev. Marty has a strong commitment to the UCC/DOC partnership as well as ecumenical and interfaith ministries.
In her spare time, you will find Rev. Marty and spouse Sue Goddard hiking, camping, and backpacking in the Sierras. They enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Good books are her constant joy. She enjoys cooking, playing bocce occasionally, and walking the dogs. Lulu, the beagle, and April, the Cairn/Chihuahua mix, keep Rev. Marty and Sue entertained and walking every day.
Rev. Marty will begin her interim service on December 1st, 2016. She will be working half time at CCAV. Please introduce yourself to her. She is anxious to meet everyone!

White Hawk was the angriest person I have ever encountered.
I met White Hawk at 8AM on Christmas Eve morning.
He had shackles on his hands and feet that were connected to a chain around his waist. The guard sat him down and padlocked the handcuffs to a metal loop on the table. With his hands held together by the handcuffs he picked up the telephone receiver. Read More
After much prayer and discernment, I will be leaving my duties as your pastor at the end of September and beginning new work as a teacher at Christian University in Thailand (October, 2016). My last Sunday to lead worship will be on September 18 at our 9 a.m. service; it will include a Service of Farewell led by the Northern CA/NV Conference staff.
I have treasured this time . . . (see the complete letter)
You are invited to gather with Pastor Michele for about an hour of study/discussion.
May 1 we started a new series of
First Sunday discussions after church.
We're utilizing an Augsburg Fortress press series, Bible Basics for Adults, covering topics of Ten key Events in Jesus’ Life, Ten Key Passages from the Bible, and Ten Key People from the Bible.
All are invited. Handouts will be available for the study—come join us, no pre-read necessary.
We respect and affirm all who seek to be part of their journey with us. Learn more about our LGBT Affirming church.

Youth who are 8th grade and older are invited to participate in Confirmation Class. We use the book My Confirmation , a UCC publication, that is a great guide/resource book for study.
Confirmation is for youth who have been baptized or desire to be baptized. It is a time to make an "adult" decision about church membership and to help youth articulate their growing Christian identity.
Please speak to the pastor if you are interested in becoming part of the Confirmation Class at CCAV. We offer the class by request. Currently we have a class meeting and youth interested may join this study group. Pentecost Sunday, May 15, 2016 is the date we are looking toward for Confirmation Sunday.
Faith is a journey and the road can be rocky with many twists and turns.
You are welcome here with all your questions and doubts.
